Superintendent's Statement on the Busing Question

October 16, 2013

Dear Parents/Guardians:

I am aware that many members of the Manalapan-Englishtown community were looking forward to the possibility of a return to a three-tier bus schedule. Unfortunately, due to a change in procedures for filing election information, the deadline for submitting the question was missed. As a result, the referendum process will be delayed another year. I apologize to the community for this administrative error.

I have discussed this situation with the Board of Education. Procedures will be put in place to assure that this error does not happen again, and I will include the Busing Second Question in the proposed 2014-2015 budget. If it is approved by the Board of Education, the question will be on the November ballot in 2014.

In addition, I have informed the Board that I will include two items in the 2014-2015 budget that will alleviate some of the major concerns that have been voiced by the community. First, the district budget will cover the cost of the Before Care Program at Milford Brook School. Secondly, we will increase the number of buses assigned to Milford Brook School at dismissal for the 2014-2015 academic year. Bus routes are designed to maximize efficiency as measured by the Department of Education, and while increasing the number of dismissal buses at Milford Brook will decrease efficiency for 2014-2015, it will shorten the routes and allow students to get home earlier.

Again, I apologize for this error and assure you that it will not happen again. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact my office.

A Message from the Superintendent

Welcome to the 2013-2014 school year! We look forward to another year and more exciting changes that will positively impact your child's learning experience. While the district's teachers continue the process of implementing the Common Core State Standards, the district will be taking the next step forward as we strive to create a 21 st Century Learning environment. This September we will begin the implementation of our digital conversion at Pine Brook School. Please check the district web site for additional information on this initiative.  We are also introducing a new report card for third grade. You can be assured that Manalapan-Englishtown Regional Schools' long tradition of excellence that led to two of its schools being designated "STAR" schools by the New Jersey Department of Education, as well as being recognized for "Best Practices", will continue. Working together with you, we will provide your children with a positive educational experience this year.

The district went "green" in 2010-2011. In 2013-2014, you will once again obtain your bus passes online. In addition, this year's homeroom placement and the name of your child's teacher will be available through the parent portal.  You will receive a letter from your child's principal with the necessary information to access the parent portal.  And finally, the report cards at MEMS and Pine Brook will also no longer be sent home since they will be available to parents through the Parent Portal.

For updates on district events, Board of Education minutes, all district curricula and PTA happenings, please check our website: .

District staff members can easily be emailed through the "Contact Directory" which can be found on each school's web page.  You can also leave a voice mail for your child's teacher or principal by following the menu when you dial the school.

The schedule for the opening of the Parent Portal for the district's schools will be:

Pine Brook School - August 22, 2013

Milford Brook School- August 23, 2013

MEMS - August 24, 2013

Wemrock Brook/Lafayette Mills School - August 26, 2013

Clark Mills/Taylor Mills School - August 27, 2013

Bus passes will be available on the Web site on August 19, 2013.

Additional information will be available on your child's school web site.

I look forward to September and to sharing another great year with you.
