September 8, 2015
To Our Pine Brook Community,
During the first few days of the 2015-2016 school year students will focus on getting accustomed to life at Pine Brook. The teachers will spend time reviewing the schedule, guiding students through the building, teaching them how to open and properly lock their lockers, and providing an overview of the sixth grade curriculum. The students will quickly learn that the staff at Pine Brook has high expectations for their academic abilities and behavior choices, all grounded in our school motto, "Sail to Success: Be Respectful, Be Responsible, and Be Ready to Learn." We are confident that shortly after entering Pine Brook, your child will feel comfortable in their new learning community.
Through our academic, athletic, before and after-school and positive behavior supports, we will be providing learning experiences to aid your child in understanding and embracing his/her new sense of independence found in our Sixth Grade Center. We know that this will be a special year of growth, development and achievement for each student. Therefore, we ask that you help your child reflect on his/her past achievements and consider what his/her expectations are for this school year. We encourage you to discuss with your child his/her goals in regards to academics, attitude and behavior. Working together, we will be able to assist students in achieving their personal goals while ensuring they are well prepared for MEMS come 2016.
Please review the following reminders so that we may form a strong home-school connection:
• We would like to invite all parents and guardians to join our faculty at Back-to-School Night on Wednesday, September 16, 2015. The students will receive a letter about this evening to bring home that will also have a schedule for you to follow.
• One of our goals this year is to maintain the district Paperless Initiative; please check our website link at www.mers.k12.nj.us for regular updates and to subscribe to our "Backpack." Should you be interested in receiving Recreation and other community information not specific to Pine Brook, please subscribe to the District backpack also.
• We ask that you review The Code of Student Conduct which is found inside the Student Planner given to the students by the PTA, as well as school policies and procedures, with your child to ensure a smooth transition into our school.
• We encourage all students to use the District busing for safety reasons. If you need to drop off or pick up your child due to an emergency, please follow school guidelines:
o Drop Off: Located on the side of the school building by the parking lot. Drive to the end, turn around, and then drop your child off on the school side for safety. Students who arrive at homeroom after 8:54 are considered late.
o Pick Up: Send a note to the main office. Students will be dismissed at 3:04PM from the lobby outside of the Media Center in the back of the building. All parents/guardians are asked to drive to the back of the school and enter at the rear door with steps. Inside that door, a teacher will be waiting to help you sign out your child.
Please check the website often as we publicize many important events and opportunities on it. We uphold an open door policy, and hope you will not hesitate to contact us should you have any questions, comments, or concerns throughout the year.
